Platform Overview

Piedmont Hosting provides cloud VPS servers, game servers and web hosting on Dell PowerEdge hardware we own and operate in Durham, NC.

Infrastructure

Customer services run on a Dell PowerEdge R730 with RAID-protected SSD storage and ECC memory. Every VPS includes:

Dedicated IPv4 and IPv6 addresses
A port speed of 100–500 Mbps, set by its memory, with unmetered transfer and no overage fees
Free private networking (VPC) to your other VPS servers
Live CPU, memory, disk and network charts
Optional automated daily backups

Account Setup

Setting up your Piedmont Hosting account takes just a few minutes.

Go to the signup page and enter your first and last name, email address and a password (at least 8 characters).

Add a card on the secure Stripe page to claim your $10 account credit — nothing is charged until you deploy a service. You can skip this step; the credit is then added when you first check out.

Click the link in the verification email within 24 hours to activate your account.

Sign in at vps.piedmonthosting.com/login.

Optionally turn on two-factor authentication under Profile > Two-Factor Auth.

Tip

If you don't receive the verification email, check your spam folder, or click Didn't receive it? Resend email on the signup confirmation screen.

Enabling Two-Factor Authentication

We strongly recommend enabling 2FA to protect your account. Go to Profile > Two-Factor Auth, click Enable 2FA, scan the QR code with any TOTP authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, etc.) and enter the 6-digit code to confirm. You'll also get 8 one-time recovery codes — save them somewhere safe; each one lets you sign in once if you lose your authenticator.

Dashboard Guide

Your dashboard at vps.piedmonthosting.com/dashboard is your control center for all Piedmont Hosting services.

Dashboard Overview

If something needs you — a suspended service, a failed payment or setup, or a ticket waiting on your reply — it's listed first under Needs your attention. Below that are tiles for your services, monthly cost and support (plus VPS traffic this month and live throughput if you have a VPS), then one list of all your services — including suspended and failed ones — with a VPS traffic chart, recent invoices and open tickets beside it. The dashboard only shows information; click a service to manage it.

Service Management

Click any service to open its management page. Depending on the service type, you'll find these tabs:

Billing & Subscriptions

All billing is handled through Stripe. We accept all major credit and debit cards. Your past charges are listed on the Invoices page.

Billing Cycles

VPS servers, game servers and web hosting can be billed monthly or yearly. Annual billing saves 10% on game servers, web hosting, and VPS CPU and RAM (VPS storage costs the same either way, so a whole VPS saves a little less). Annual plans are charged for the full year up front. Subscriptions renew automatically, and we email you about 3 days before each renewal.

VPS Billing

VPS servers use component-based pricing. Each resource (CPU, RAM, Storage) is billed as a separate line item on your subscription, making it easy to see exactly what you're paying for. Optional automated backups add 10% of the server's price.

Managing Your Subscription

How you change or cancel a service depends on its type:

VPS — click Resize on the Overview tab to change CPU, RAM or storage (see Resizing Your VPS). To cancel, click Delete Server.
Web hosting — click Change Plan on the service page to move between Starter, Business, and Pro, or Cancel Plan to cancel.
Game servers — click Cancel Server on the Overview tab. To move to a different tier, open a support ticket.

Cancelling asks for your account password and gives you two choices: Delete Now deletes the service and all its data immediately and ends the subscription; Cancel at End of Billing Period keeps it running until the period ends, and you can click Undo Cancellation any time before then. Plan changes are prorated: the difference (or a credit) appears on your next invoice.

Warning

If a payment fails, the service is marked Suspended and we email you. Game servers are stopped right away; VPS and web hosting keep running during the grace period. You have 7 days to fix the payment — click Manage billing on the Invoices page to update your card or pay the invoice — before the service is terminated and its data permanently deleted. We send a reminder after 3 days, and as soon as a later payment succeeds the service is reactivated automatically.

Promo Codes

Promo codes can be applied during checkout on the Stripe payment page — look for the "Add promotion code" field before completing your purchase. Promo codes work with monthly billing only; annual plans already include their own discount.
