Piedmont Hosting ("we," "us," or "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information when you use our website and services (collectively, "Services").
Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and password. Your account password is stored only as a salted hash. Passwords we generate for your services (SFTP, database, WordPress, app and game-server passwords) are stored with the service so we can show them to you and support the service — change them after you first sign in if you prefer.
Billing Information: Payment details are collected and processed by our payment processor, Stripe. We do not store credit card numbers, CVVs, or full card details on our servers. We may retain the last four digits of your card and billing address for record-keeping.
Service Data: We collect information related to your use of our Services, including server configuration choices, IP addresses assigned to your services, and support ticket communications.
Log Data: Our servers automatically log information including your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. This data is used for security, troubleshooting, and service improvement.
We use the information we collect to provide, maintain, and improve our Services, process transactions and send billing-related communications, respond to support requests and communicate with you about your account, detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents, and comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your information for advertising purposes. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.
We share your information only in the following circumstances:
Payment Processing: Billing data is shared with Stripe to process payments. Stripe's privacy policy governs their handling of your data.
Email Delivery: Your email address is shared with our email infrastructure to deliver account notifications, support replies, and service communications.
Service Providers: Cloudflare (delivers and protects our websites and DNS), Amazon Web Services (stores our encrypted backups) and Slack (internal staff notifications, which can include your name, email address and ticket subject).
Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, subpoena, court order, or government request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, safety, or property.
Business Transfer: If Piedmont Hosting is acquired or merged with another entity, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
Your account data is stored on servers we operate in Durham, North Carolina. Encrypted nightly backups are kept in Amazon S3 (US East). We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encrypted connections (TLS/SSL), hashed passwords, and access controls.
No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We do not access, read, or monitor the content stored on your virtual servers, game servers, or hosting accounts except when necessary to maintain infrastructure, respond to support requests you initiate, or comply with legal obligations.
You are solely responsible for the data you store on our Services. We recommend maintaining independent backups of all critical data.
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. After account deletion or service termination, we may retain certain information for a reasonable period for legal, billing, and security purposes. When a service ends, we delete its data from our servers. Copies in our encrypted backups expire on their own, within six months.
Our website uses session cookies that are essential for authentication and account functionality. We do not use third-party tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or analytics platforms that track you across other websites.
To understand which pages are useful, we count visits to piedmonthosting.com with Umami, a privacy-focused analytics tool that we host on our own servers. It sets no cookies, does not store your IP address, does not follow you to other websites, and respects your browser's Do Not Track setting. Umami's data stays on our servers (encrypted backups are kept in Amazon S3) and is not shared with anyone.
Cloudflare, which delivers our site, also counts page views with its cookie-free Web Analytics.
You have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate information, request deletion of your account and associated data, and receive a copy of your data in a portable format.

Our Services are not directed to individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected information from a child under 18, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or account notification. Your continued use of our Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
